Olivia Miles WNBA Rookie Record: The Minnesota Lynx remain a force this season in the WNBA, and rookie guard Olivia Miles has made fans even more excited. Miles had a historic game, putting her name in the WNBA record book, in a wild 87-84 win over the Golden State Valkyries.
The second overall selection in the 2026 WNBA Draft had a season-high of 28 points and tied a new WNBA rookie record with eight threes in one game. Her stellar play in the game helped the Lynx earn another win and continued to build her own resume as one of the league’s bright young stars.
The WNBA Rookie Record Breaks Long-Standing Record for Olivia Miles
Coming into the game Thursday night, Olivia Miles was in search of a continuation of her strong rookie season, but it was hardly this level.
The rookie guard made eight of her first 11 three-pointers, which is a new rookie record for the WNBA. Caitlin Clark tied for the mark with seven three-pointers in 2024 and Crystal Robinson in 1999.
That’s even more impressive because Miles has been a bit tough to come by at a distance earlier this season. She had only made two of her first 18 three-point shots before the game. Her debut night for shooting out of the park proved her confidence and challenge-accepting prowess.

Miles’ scoring was more than effective. She played in various facets of the game, ending with seven assists and four rebounds, and took the lead on the Lynx offence.
She had a presence throughout the game, scoring or assisting on 44 of Minnesota’s 87 points. Whenever the Valkyries had a chance to get going, Miles stepped in with a huge shot or an astute playmaking call. The win put Minnesota on an 8-2 record and put them in the top spot in the WNBA standings.

Miles attributed her success to her confidence and belief in herself after the game. The rookie said mental preparation has been a big part of her helping her adapt to pro basketball.
That’s a strong mind that she’s made evident on court. Miles is averaging 17.0 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.9 rebounds over the first 10 games in her 3-year WNBA career. Those statistics make her one of the most productive rookies in the league and make Minnesota’s most ardent pickers proud.
Lynx Coach and Teammates Celebrate Historic Night
“This was a particular shooting for which I was not expecting,” Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve said. The coaching staff has been urging Miles to shoot more aggressively since they think she has the potential to become a reliable perimeter threat, she said.
Team veteran Kayla McBride also commended the rookie’s effort. Miles plays value on both ends of the floor and is still proving to be one of the key contributors to Minnesota’s future, McBride said. In addition, not only did Miles hit all of his three-pointers, but he also set a Lynx franchise record with eight, which was matched by McBride in the same game.
From College Star to WNBA Rising Talent
Miles’ outburst from the shooter may have surprised some supporters, but her fans will be familiar with her ability to shoot the ball out of the park when it matters.
Once played for TCU, she made ten three-pointers in a game against Baylor. She played multiple memorable games for Notre Dame before transferring to TCU. She has made a seamless move from college basketball to the WNBA and is still a very exciting prospect in the league.
What does this mean for the Lynx Going Forward?
This is just the kind of game Minnesota needs to help keep its hopes alive for a championship. A novice with scoring ability, creating opportunities for fellow players and holding the fort in big moments can be another blade in the mediocre lineup.
But if the opposing defences are going to pay attention to Miles, they will during the course of the season. But she’s capable of playing with the same confidence and drive against the Valkyries if she can leap to become one of the top prospects for Rookie of the Year.
